JRHS High Tea Connects Generations, Builds Community

At a recent Cultural Day assembly, students at Beacon Hill Elementary School were treated to a lively and inspiring celebration of music, culture, and creativity. The event was part of a new school-wide initiative introduced this year to help students learn more about cultures and countries around the world.

The Lester B. Pearson School Board (LBPSB) recently hosted its Teen Summit, themed “Changing the World with Innovation through the Lens of EDDI.” The event brought together students and educators to explore creative, student-driven solutions to real-world challenges impacting schools and communities.

Five- and six-year-old kindergarten students might seem an unlikely crew for heavy agricultural lifting. Yet, as they stood before an audience while their rigorous work maintaining school garden beds was described, their undeniable pride—and pretty darn cute presence—set the tone for the evening. These young environmentalists were the heart of a vibrant community gathering celebrating grassroots sustainability across the network.

Meaghan Macro, a physical educator at PETES, is being recognized on the national stage for her outstanding contributions to student health and well-being.

The Westwood Wildcats M18 D3 scolaire hockey team has etched its name at the top of Quebec high school hockey, capturing its first-ever provincial championship in a season defined by resilience, growth, and unwavering determination.

A graduate of Maple Grove, Latifah Abdu, a professional soccer player, came back to visit her alma mater. She attended Maple Grove from 2008 to 2014.

LaSalle Junior K4 teacher Shyla Khan recently took on a very special project with her class. Passionate about creativity and storytelling, decided to write a children’s book about her class. Shyla saw this as an opportunity to create something meaningful that would allow her students to share their voices.

Some schools across the board have taken part in a Water is a Human Right project. This project, led by CAPDA Sarah Zaslov, addresses the water crisis still being faced by many Indigenous communities across Canada.

On May 5th, our school community at PACC Vocational came together in a powerful and reflective way to recognize Red Dress Day, formally known as the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG). This important day serves as a time to honour the lives lost, raise awareness, and stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities across Canada.

Beechwood Elementary came alive as students and staff celebrated Earth Week and Nutrition Week through engaging, hands-on activities focused on wellness, environmental awareness, and community connection.

We were thrilled to host two successful Family Engagement Nights this past week for the school communities of Lakeside Academy, Maple Grove Elementary, Springdale Elementary, and Sunshine Academy. These evenings provided meaningful opportunities for families, staff, and community partners to come together, connect, and support student success.

St. John Fisher Jr. recently hosted an assembly focused on autism awareness, welcoming guest speaker Steven Atme—a musician, creative arts teacher, speaker, and autism advocate who was diagnosed with autism at the age of four.

In harmony with the vibrant learning that happens in the classroom, vital social development continues well after the final bell rings. Across the Lester B. Pearson School Board, the SEED Daycare Program (Social, Educational, Extended Day) is celebrating the 14th annual Quebec School Daycare Week. This year’s provincial theme, “A Whirlwind of Creativity,” highlights the essential role educators play in shaping environments where 4,951 students play, learn, and belong.

Lester B. Pearson School Board school Wilder Penfield Elementary School is proud to announce that it has officially joined the SUN AWARE Sun Safety Certification Program, an award-winning initiative developed by Melanoma Canada. The program helps schools and community organizations across Canada protect children and staff from the harmful effects of the sun by promoting strong and sustainable sun safety practices.

Dorval Elementary and St. Charles Elementary had the pleasure of welcoming volunteer representatives from the Mira Foundation. Valerie, Francine, and Daniel introduced students to the organization’s mission: changing lives, one dog at a time.

The student-run dining room at the Pearson Adult and Career Centre Vocational campus has implemented a major change to make the experience even more appealing to the community. Guests dining at Le Saucier can now bring their own wine, beer, or cider to pair with meals prepared and served entirely by students.

As exam season approaches, many students focus on reviewing notes, completing practice questions, and managing their study schedules. While effective study habits are essential, nutrition also plays a major role in helping students stay focused, energized, and ready to perform at their best.
