A Future that Fits

Save the date! LBPSB Virtual Career Fair takes place on January 25th. It is a great opportunity to learn about educational options and explore possibilities.

Wondering what options exist after graduating from secondary 5? The LBPSB Virtual Career and Education Fair 2022 has answers for parents, students, and adult learners. All are encouraged to use this opportunity to network and explore the many educational options. The possibilities are endless!

Andrea Fraser, Guidance counsellor at Macdonald High School

“It’s hard to know what’s out there when you’re not out there,” says Andrea Fraser, organizer and guidance counsellor at Macdonald High School. “This event brings together more than 50 different institutions including colleges, universities, trade schools and LBPSB vocational centres in one place, making it easy for students and parents to get the information they need. Our goal is really to expose students to as many post-secondary options as possible,” says Andrea.

On January 25th, each LBPSB high school will allocate one period for secondary four and five students to log on and visit the fair on their own. For those who would like to revisit something they might have missed during their visit, students and their families will have access to the content for 30 days.

Last year, over 3500 people attended the first virtual edition of the fair. Andrea explains that the online platform the committee chose is extremely interactive, making it possible to participate in live Q and A sessions or to even join a virtual student lounge where students can have live one-on-one video conversations with career counsellors from different institutions.
There will also be special sessions where students can learn how to complete a CEGEP application and a video vault of practical information from industry partners that provide in-depth information of certain careers like firefighters or pilots.
With exhibitors coming as far away as Algonquin College and the University of Ottawa, students will have ample variety when searching for post-secondary 5 educational options.
“The fair is really open to everyone! We welcome our adult learners, high-school students, parents, and even adults who are thinking of changing careers,” says Andrea. “It’s really a one-stop stop where anyone can get the information on career options and how to make the educational choices to achieve those professional goals”.
