Bingo Night at Verdun Elementary School Brings Community Together
by Chloë Ranaldi
What a fantastic evening at Mr. Andrew’s Bingo Night at Verdun Elementary on April 9th.
On April 9th, parents and students enjoyed delicious tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches before diving into three exciting rounds of Bingo, all for a chance to win some great prizes.
Parents and students sat around tables at Verdun Elementary School excited to play a round of Bingo as a family.
It was a heartwarming after-school event that brought our school community together for plenty of laughter and fun.
The person behind the event was Andrew Hamilton, a Family-School Support and Social Work Technician (FSSTT) at Verdun Elementary. His goal was simple: create a welcoming event that gave families a reason to come into the school in a positive and relaxed setting.
“I was at Christmas Park Elementary school and we did a Bingo Night last year, and it turned out really well,” he said, wanting to host a similar event that brings families to the school in a positive way.
Mr. Andrew says many staff members stayed after school heating up the tomato soup and 240 grilled cheeses for families.
The heart of the event was not just about the games or the food—it was about creating an opportunity for connection.
“The goal tonight is just to get people in the building, having a positive experience. Because I think that too often at schools, we wait until something bad happens to contact the parents and grow relationships with them,” said Mr. Andrew.
“By bringing parents into the school, it makes building relationships and connections much easier,” he said. “You’ve built a foundation, where you can build on with families.”
