Council Summary: March 2026

To ensure members of the Lester B. Pearson School Board community remain up-to-date regarding what transpires at regular Council of Commissioners meetings, the Department of Communications and Community Development sends out summaries of the different decisions that are taken following each meeting.

Staffing Updates:

  • James Walker has been appointed Director of Human Resources, effective July 1, 2026.
  • Jeffrey Wood has been appointed Director of Equipment Services, effective April 1, 2026.
  • Christine Dane and Dean Graddon have been appointed as Principals for the 2026 Summer School session.
  • Dean Graddon will also serve as Summer School Coordinator for the 2027 session, effective August 4, 2026, with the possibility of a second-year extension.

Facilities Updates:

  • Rental rates for school board facilities will increase by 3.25% for the 2026–2027 school year.
  • Awarded to the lowest bidder and in accordance with the tender documents, the board has approved contracts for school improvement projects, including:
  • Birchwood Elementary School – six portable classrooms in the amount of $3,968,000 (before taxes)
  • Beaconsfield High School – roof replacement and exit lighting in the amount of $2,480,405 (before taxes)
  • Maple Grove Elementary School – roof basins and mechanical equipment replacement in the amount of $1,254,497 (before taxes)
  • Beechwood Elementary School – roof basins and mechanical equipment replacement in the amount of $745,900 (before taxes)
  • John Rennie High School – roofing renovation and library ceiling replacement the amount of $2,280,742 (before taxes)
  • Edgewater Elementary School – boiler and electrical entrance replacement, and heating controls upgrades in the amount of $683,000 (before taxes)

Purchasing Update:

  • The board will participate in group purchasing through the Centre d’acquisitions gouvernementales for electrical equipment and supplies for a 12-month term with the possibility to renew for two additional one-year terms, with a maximum budget of $800,000 before taxes over three years.
