LaSalle Elementary Senior captures BRONZE at the 2025 Jeux de Montréal!

submitted by Michael Putré

Congratulations to the LaSalle Elementary Girls Handball Team for winning Bronze at the 2025 Jeux de Montréal.

The bronze medal team was coached by Physical Education teacher Michael Putré with assistance from Grade 4 English Teacher Lynn Dallaire.

The Jeux de Montréal is an annual sporting event that occurs over 5 days in Montréal at numerous locations. This year is recognized as the 48th edition of Jeux de Montréal. Last year, LaSalle Elementary Senior captured the gold medal in Girls Basketball. However, as basketball won’t be offered until 2026, the LaSalle Girls Basketball Team decided to embark on a new challenge – Indoor Handball!

The handball games took place on Saturday, April 5th at Centre Sportif Claude-Robillard in Saint-Laurent. It was the first time the region of LaSalle was represented in this discipline and it was the first time LaSalle Elementary Senior competed in a regional handball tournament.

The team was composed of seven students and was captained by Grade 5 student Isabella Dunn. Isabella was participating in her second Jeux de Montréal and demonstrated her sportsmanship, leadership, and communication skills throughout the tournament.

Next year, Isabella will compete in her third and final Jeux de Montréal and has been chosen to represent the region of LaSalle as the official flag bearer at the opening and closing ceremonies.

Although Jeux de Montréal was the conclusion of the Handball season at LaSalle Elementary Senior, the extracurricular focus will once again shift to Basketball. First, the Grade 6 Girls Basketball Team will compete at the second annual all-girls basketball jamboree at John Rennie High School in May 2025. Secondly, the team will compete in several exhibition games with both elementary and secondary schools. Finally, the season will conclude with the second annual Girls Glow in the Dark Basketball Game!
