Kingsdale Elementary Honoured
at Council Meeting for Literacy Leadership

by Marilyn Santucci

At the recent Council of Commissioners meeting, Kingsdale Elementary School was formally presented with the 2025 Educational Excellence Award from Dyslexia Canada. The award recognizes the school’s outstanding leadership in literacy and its commitment to inclusive education.

The evening began with welcoming remarks from Director General Dr. Cindy Finn, who emphasized the importance of building strong literacy foundations for all students. She praised Kingsdale for its dedication to evidence-based practices and highlighted how the school’s efforts serve as a model for others across the Lester B. Pearson School Board.

The award was presented by Alicia Smith, Executive Director of Dyslexia Canada, and David Eliot, a member of the organization’s Board of Directors. In their presentation, they underscored how Kingsdale’s approach to literacy—focusing on early identification, timely interventions, and inclusive classroom strategies—has created a positive and lasting impact on student learning.

Principal Kathryne Byrne accepted the award alongside Kingsdale’s literacy team, whose hard work and innovation have been instrumental in the school’s success. Together, they have developed a culture where literacy is not only a priority but also a shared responsibility among staff, students, and families.

This award highlights more than just one school’s achievement—it shines a light on the broader commitment to making literacy accessible and empowering for all learners.
