A Whirlwind of Creativity in SEED Programs

by Dan Mullins
In harmony with the vibrant learning that happens in the classroom, vital social development continues well after the final bell rings. Across the Lester B. Pearson School Board, the SEED Daycare Program (Social, Educational, Extended Day) is celebrating the 14th annual Quebec School Daycare Week. This year’s provincial theme, "A Whirlwind of Creativity," highlights the essential role educators play in shaping environments where 4,951 students play, learn, and belong.

Operating across 36 locations, the SEED program relies on the dedication of over 300 employees. To mark this celebration, which runs from May 11 to May 15, 2026, Program Manager Rena Walters issued her annual invitation to daycare teams, asking them to produce collaborative works of art reflecting the provincial theme. These student-driven pieces were sent from participating schools and are now installed at the Board’s head office. The artwork demonstrates that creativity in daycare is a vital tool.

Walters recognizes the immense value of the daily commitment of the incredible people who make SEED programs work. “To each and every SEED staff member, Congratulations on another amazing year of creativity, learning, and fun,” she wrote. Reflecting on the enduring impact of their work, she offered a fitting thought from author Susan Jeffers: “‘In every seed, there is the promise of a forest.’ Thank you for your contribution in building our future forests”.
