Veggie Patch Adventurers

The students of the 341 split-grade class at Allion School participated in a wonderful project funded by the Blue Metropolis organization. The bilingual project was entitled “Les aventuriers du potager/Veggie Patch Adventurers.”
Our students wrote the French lyrics for the song “Le rap des vegetables/The vegetables’ rap” with the artist Nisha Coleman.
Grade 5 students learning English as a second language from the Centre de services scolaire de Montréal wrote the lyrics in English.
This song is also the initiating event of this spring’s STEAM project. Students expanded their knowledge of food, nutrition and the different states of matter.
Cette chanson est aussi l’élément déclencheur du projet STEAM de ce printemps. Les élèves ont élargi leurs connaissances de la nourriture, la nutrition et les différents états de la matière.
They also created 3D plates from the food made and wrote a description which explained the dish as well as providing an approximate cost of the ingredients as found in various flyers. Finally, they grew nasturtiums, radish sprouts and romaine lettuce.
Ils ont aussi fabriqué de la nourriture en 3D avec l’artiste Beverly Ann Landry qui vient travailler avec les élèves à Allion. Ils ont aussi créé des assiettes en 3D à partir de la nourriture faite et ont écrit un texte descriptif qui présentait le plat ainsi qu’un coût approximatif des ingrédients trouvés dans les différentes circulaires. Enfin, ils ont fait pousser des capucines, des pousses de radis et de la laitue romaine.
