An Update to ‘Kyle Rougeau Goes the Extra Mile’

by Dan Mullins
Following his recent selection for the AMI-Quebec Extra Mile Award, Lakeside Academy teacher Kyle Rougeau officially received his honour during the organization's Annual General Meeting. Surrounded by fellow advocates on June 9th, the Lester B. Pearson School Board educator reflected on the power of community in supporting youth mental health.

As previously reported, Rougeau was named a recipient of the Extra Mile Award for his ongoing advocacy, which has brought over 200 mental health presentations to more than 3,000 students since 2018.

The recent gathering formally recognized his dedication alongside other community leaders. Following the ceremony, Rougeau and his fellow recipients were highlighted in the Summer 2026 edition of AMI-Quebec’s “Share & Care” newsletter.

“I was truly very honoured and humbled to be recognized amongst a group of mental health advocates and allies,” Rougeau shared after the event. “I was inspired by the stories of the other award recipient’s work and how each one has made such an impact in their volunteering, organizations, and professions.”

Moving forward, Rougeau hopes this spotlight will encourage other schools within the LBPSB to utilize AMI-Quebec’s educational resources, which include guest speakers, workshops, and small group sessions.

“It is wonderful how AMI Quebec brings together such a varied group of partners that work in our own community to support the individuals, families, and caregivers affected by mental health struggles,” he noted.
