The First Bell Rings: Welcoming New and Returning Students Across our Schools
by Marilyn Santucci
On August 29th, the Lester B. Pearson School Board (LBPSB) opened its doors to students and staff as the 2025–2026 school year officially got underway. Across the board, classrooms, hallways, and playgrounds quickly filled with the familiar buzz of back-to-school excitement.
For many, the first day of school represents more than just a date on the calendar—it’s a chance to reconnect, to start fresh, and to look ahead to the opportunities a new year brings. Teachers welcomed students with lessons carefully planned over the summer, while caretaking staff ensured that buildings were ready to host another year of learning. Administrators, technicians, and specialists stood by to support students in every aspect of their school experience.
Schools are also welcoming many new students joining the community for the first time. For these students, the first day can be both exciting and a little nerve-wracking, as they navigate new classrooms, meet new teachers, and make new friends. Schools have been preparing orientation activities and supports to help new students feel at home and quickly become part of the school community.
Over the summer months, the board and its schools were busy preparing for the year ahead. Many facilities underwent upgrades, new educational programs were introduced, and professional development sessions ensured that staff are equipped with the latest tools and strategies to support student success.
Families also play an important role in this transition. From preparing school supplies to walking their children to the bus stop on that first morning, parents and guardians share in the excitement and help set the tone for a positive year.
As the LBPSB community embarks on this new school year, the focus remains clear: equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to thrive—both inside the classroom and beyond it.
With the energy of a fresh start and the strength of a supportive community, the 2025–2026 school year promises to be one of growth, discovery, and achievement for all.
