Cat Tull Launches New Scholarship at Concordia University for Female Basketball Players

by Marilyn Santucci

Cat Tull was a standout basketball player for Concordia University, earning numerous accolades throughout her career. The FSSTT Child and Family Development Consultant for the Lester B. Pearson School Board is a two-time All-Canadian, a two-time Quebec conference MVP, and a three-time all-star. Her leadership helped secure three consecutive appearances at the Canadian nationals and three Quebec Student Sports Federation division titles.

In 2020, U Sports recognized her as one of the top 100 women’s basketball players in Canada of the century. Her legacy was further cemented with her induction into the Concordia University Sports Hall of Fame (see the full article here).

She has since established a new scholarship at Concordia University to support female basketball players who share her passion, dedication, and drive for the game.

“I developed the award to give back. I recently was inducted in the Concordia Sports Hall of Fame and one of the things I mentioned in my speech is that I want to continue to empower and inspire young female student athletes,” says Ms. Tull.

About the Award

The Cat Tull Grit & Grace Award will honor a women’s basketball player who demonstrates tenacity, relentless drive, and unwavering dedication to her team. This award recognizes an athlete who not only excels on the court but also uplifts and inspires her teammates through selflessness and commitment. It will also support a student-athlete in good academic standing.

More than an accolade, this award embodies teamwork, resilience, and excellence in women’s basketball. It serves as a reminder that true success is measured not just by individual achievements but by the positive impact one has on others.

By establishing this award, players are encouraged to embrace challenges, support their teammates, and help build a stronger, more unified team.

“I love playing basketball. I loved being a student athlete, but I didn’t have the financial support that was needed. I really had to work hard. I think it’s important that if I can support a student athlete along their journey without them having the same obstacles I had, then I plan to do it. It’s not only about the financial aid, but also the meaning behind it. These are powerful young women, and they don’t realize it yet. And if I can support them along this journey in recognizing that, I would do anything to make that happen.”
