Chairperson’s Report to Council for November 2024
This evening we have sworn in a newly mandated Council of Commissioners. For all of us, in coming forward to commit to the work of commissioners, whether elected in a contested electoral division(a Ward), elected by acclamation, elected by peers from the LBPSB Parents’ Committee or Central Students’ Committee, we are here for a variety of reasons and also for the same reason. We all want to ensure the Lester B. Pearson School Board is the best it can be and we will be doing the hard and important work to make that happen.
We do not yet know all of the challenges ahead of us, but we will take on issues and concerns, as well as the wonderful things happening at the LBPSB, with determination and pride. I think of us as a group of individuals, yes, we are all “independents”, with a goal of shared vision, not division; we are a group who don’t always have to think alike to achieve common end goals; the paths we will take will lead to the same place: A vision of Excellence across the Board. To get there, the means to that end, is a collective adherence to the LBPSB values of Respect: we foster a respectful, nurturing and safe environment; Integrity: we commit to honesty, equity and accountability; Innovation: we support creativity and a spirit of inquiry; Inclusion: we reflect and celebrate diversity; Community: we promote local and global citizenship through strong engagement.
I look forward to civil discourse both publicly and behind the scenes. I look forward to working with a Council who is loyal, and who face adversity in a collegial and transparent way, separating us from the negative politics of division and backroom deals which often permeate the world of politics today.
This council of commissioners is not here for us. We are here for you, the LBPSB community. We are here for the students. We are here to be the best we can be.
