Cheers to 25 Years! Miss Margaret Celebrates 25 Years

by Julie Liebman
Faces of the LBPSB is a series that introduces our community to the special people who work inside our schools. Meet Margaret Gogoris (Miss Margaret), who is celebrating 25 years as the SEED technician (Social, Educational, Extended Day) at Westpark Elementary.

“I have been at Westpark for 25 years! Daycares have become such an integral part of everyday life at our school. There are 300 students registered daily, and we continuously strive to find programming that meets the emerging interests of the children that touch on their emotional, cognitive, and physical development. We take pride in the activities that we offer the children both after-school and on ped. days. From bake sales, to making spices, learning how to sew, gardening and homework support, our service has evolved tremendously over the past 25 years and I am so proud of the curriculum we’ve put together at Westpark.”

Margaret says that SEED daycares are not about babysitting, but about offering children another place to grow and learn after school hours. “We offer such a comprehensive and enriching service for working parents who cannot pick up their children when the bell rings. Their children are well taken care of, they’re having fun, and it’s a time when I discover some of the students’ strengths whether its art, playing chess, or team sports,” she says.

Asked what she loves the most about her job, Margaret lights up. “I love my job. I get to work with 300 unique children every day and collaborate with parents, administration, and the wonderful team I’ve built. Kids teach us so much – there’s so much to love!”
