Council Summary December 2023

To ensure members of the Lester B. Pearson School Board community remain up-to-date regarding what transpires at regular Council of Commissioners meetings, the Department of Communications and Community Development sends out summaries of the different decisions that are taken following each meeting.

ADMINISTRATIVE APPOINTMENTS

The Council of Commissioners approved the following Administrative Staffing Changes that take effect on January 8th, 2024:

• Hugues Bertrand appointed as Vice-Principal of Westwood Jr. High School, permanent status; and Heather-Anne Denton administratively appointed as Principal St. John Fisher Jr. Elementary School while remaining in her current position as Principal of Dorval Elementary, permanent status;
• Eve-Marie Durand appointed as Principal of St. John Fisher Jr. Elementary School, temporary assignment.

OTHER ADMINISTRATIVE DECISIONS

1) The LBPSB Council of Commissioners strongly supported, in principle, the motion for a stay and the constitutional challenge to Bill 96, a law significantly infringing on, and discriminating against, minority language rights, as launched by the English Montreal School Board while a copy of this resolution will be sent to the Quebec English School Boards Association and the eight other English language school boards.

2) The Council of Commissioners approved the 2022-2023 Lester B. Pearson School Board Annual Report while a copy will be transmitted to the Minister of Education, Bernard Drainville as well as to Premier François Legault, Éric Girard, Minister responsible for Relations with English-Speaking Quebecers and to all Members of the National Assembly as well as to the municipalities on the territory of the Lester B. Pearson School Board.

3) The Council of Commissioners approved that the consultation document entitled Budget Consultation Plan 2024-2025 be distributed to the consultative partners of the Lester B. Pearson School Board during the week of January 8, 2024, for the community to provide input on the allocation of subsidies, school tax proceeds and other revenues of the School Board, with responses to be returned to the Secretariat no later than March 28, 2024.

4) The Council of Commissioners approved that the Policy on School Daycare and Lunch Program Services, dated December 18, 2023, be adopted.

5) The Council of Commissioners approved that the Policy on School and Continuing Education Fees, dated December 18, 2023, be adopted.

6) The Council of Commissioners approved that the Policy on Commissioners’ Local Travel, Conference and Other Expenses, dated December 18, 2023, be adopted.
