Democracy in Action: Youth Lead the Way with First-Ever Rendez-Vous Jeunesse
by Simone Viger and Chloe Ranaldi
On Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025, the Lester B. Pearson School Board’s Central Students’ Committee (CSC) was buzzing with excitement after a highly successful planning meeting for the first ever Rendez-Vous Jeunesse event.
Set for April 29th, 2025, this event is poised to bring together 600 students representing student councils from 75 secondary schools across Montreal – from the three school service centers (Centre de services scolaire Marguerite-Bourgeoys – CSSMB, Centre de services scolaire de la Pointe-de-l’Île/CSSPI, and Centre de services scolaire de Montréal – CSSDM), and two school boards (English Montreal School Board and Lester B. Pearson School Board).
The theme, The Voice of the Future, reflects the event’s goal of empowering youth through active participation in school democracy.
Committee members enthusiastically discussed workshops on leadership, project management, and eco-citizenship, all designed to help students develop valuable skills. They also focused on the importance of fostering inclusivity, diversity, and civic engagement. The event will provide students the chance to debate and vote on student-selected proposals, ensuring their voices are heard on critical issues like representation and democratic participation.
With political leaders and mentors in attendance, Rendez-Vous Jeunesse promises to be an unforgettable experience, showcasing the CSC’s commitment to student advocacy and empowerment. The CSC is more determined than ever to make a positive impact on the student body and create lasting change!
