Family Engagement Nights Bring Schools Together

by Angela Troli
We were thrilled to host two successful Family Engagement Nights this past week for the school communities of Lakeside Academy, Maple Grove Elementary, Springdale Elementary, and Sunshine Academy. These evenings provided meaningful opportunities for families, staff, and community partners to come together, connect, and support student success.

Lakeside Academy & Maple Grove Elementary

On May 5, Lakeside Academy welcomed families from both Lakeside and Maple Grove for an evening focused on connection, learning, and support. Families began the evening by sharing dinner together, catered by Dizz’s Bagels from Pointe-Claire Village, along with pizza provided by Domino’s.

The evening featured several informative workshops. Wayne Yearwood delivered a powerful presentation on social media and addiction, helping families better understand the impact of online platforms on youth today. Lisa Mancini and Kathleen Bishop also spoke with parents about academic life at Lakeside Academy, highlighting the many resources, supports, and programs available to students throughout their high school journey.

Childcare was also provided during the event, with Champs organizing basketball activities in the gym to keep children active and engaged. The evening was a wonderful success and created valuable opportunities for families to connect with staff and community organizations.

Springdale Elementary & Sunshine Academy

On May 7, Springdale Elementary hosted another successful Family Engagement Night. Families enjoyed a delicious meal catered by Al Quds Grill before participating in informative presentations and discussions focused on supporting children both academically and socially.

Childcare was once again provided, and Astrid Busby led creative art activities with the children, resulting in beautiful artwork throughout the evening.

Families also had the opportunity to hear from Alloprof, who presented the many tools and supports available on their website for both students and parents. The evening concluded with an important presentation by Murielle Montreuil and Socio-Community Officer Potts, who addressed social media safety and the online dangers children may face.

Both evenings were extremely well attended and highlighted the strength of our school communities, as well as the importance of building strong partnerships between schools and families.
