A First, LBPSB Holds Graduation Ceremony for RAC Candidates
by Julie Liebman
Last June, LBPSB’s Career Development Services (CDS) held its first-ever graduation to celebrate its candidates’ achievements.
Close to 70 graduates along with their loved ones attended the event which was held in the PACC auditorium. The graduates represented many programs including Institutional and Home Care Assistance, Electricity, Dental Assistance, Secretarial Studies, and Accounting Studies.
“I was delighted to honour our 60+ RAC graduates! The major advantage of the RAC process is that our candidates get their prior learning and experience recognised, which accelerates the rate at which they get officially certified. This cohort has a substantial number of Institutional and Home Care Assistance and Electricity candidates and they are now officially accredited by the Quebec government in their field. They completed the process at their own pace all the while working a full-time job, and many during the pandemic. Congratulations to all our RAC grads!”, said Mark Newton, Coordinator of Career Development Services.
Wearing their caps and gowns, the grads entered the auditorium beaming with pride and cheered on by their family and friends. Cindy Finn, Director General, was also on hand to offer her words of support and congratulations to the cohort, many of whom juggled full-time jobs and young children while completing the RAC process.
Dennis Williams is a RAC graduate who recently graduated from the Institutional and Home Care Assistance program. He is now officially accredited as an orderly. “Going through the RAC process brought my mind back to what it used to be — to get rich again in studying, for learning and helping people in a better way. And being able to attend a ceremony among my peers makes me so proud of the work we accomplished,” he says.

Mark Newton says the grad is the beginning of a new LBPSB tradition. “We want to encourage and support our candidates as much as we can throughout the RAC process. We also want to highlight their accomplishments among their loved ones and peers. A graduation ceremony is the perfect opportunity to congratulate them for a job well done and to wish them best for a bright and stimulating career”.
