The FSSTT Marks Thirty Years
of Connection, Consultation, and Care

by Dan Mullins

The 2025-2026 school year is the 30th anniversary of the Family School Support and Treatment Team (FSSTT). Since its founding in 1995, the FSSTT worked with students, families, and educators in the Lester B. Pearson School Board. They aim to build trusting relationships supporting social, emotional, and behavioural well‑being.

The FSSTT is at the center of a network of connection and capacity‑building. The team works directly with students and families where they are, physically, emotionally, and psychologically. Further, they consult with school professionals, and offer professional development in mental health and social‑emotional learning.

The FSSTT Team in 1995, the year of its founding

Over the 2025–2026 school year, the team’s 30th anniversary will be highlighted in several ways. A celebratory anniversary event will reunite past and present team members and stakeholders, along with people touched by their work.

The FSSTT Team throughout the years: in 2005, 2013, 2016, and 2019

Voices from the past and present, collected in text and video, will be presented in coming months in these pages and on social media as we feature the anniversary.

Janna Gillis,
Coordinator of the FSSTT

This milestone year also marks a new chapter in FSSTT leadership, as Janna Gillis begins her tenure as coordinator. Along with her significant experience as a member of the team, Ms. Gillis holds other leadership roles within the LBPSB and associated organizations. She also brings her extensive work as a Family Outreach consultant to bear, and her strength-based, trauma-informed approach is an excellent fit for the group as it begins its fourth decade of operation.

The logo that appears above represents the year-long celebration of the FSSTT’s anniversary and will unify the stories, videos, social media posts, and the celebration under a common banner. We hope it will remind readers that the team’s work is ongoing, relational, and rooted in care. As you see it over the months ahead, you are invited to remember the many years of history, hard work, expertise, and empathy behind every school intervention, consultation, or moment of connection. There are always people at the center. The stories we’ll share this year are opportunities to see that work, honor its persistence, and consider the fundamental purpose of FSSTT: to build trust and support well-being through strong school and family partnerships.
