Gratitude for Battle of the Books

Thank you LBPSB. Thank you for creating events and activities that allow my children to enjoy their educational journey. On Tuesday March 30, 2026, my son had the opportunity to participate in the board final of the Battle of the Books competition. Seeing all the students, school staff, board staff, commissioners, parents, and special guests (including celebrity quiz master Trudy Mason) made the event even more memorable.
Battle of the Books is a unique competition organized by the library staff of the many schools of LBPSB. The participants are asked to read 10 books and then answer trivia style questions as a team. Teams must qualify through competitions at the school level, then regional, and finally board level. This year’s finals saw teams from LCCHS, Beurling Academy, PCHS and Westwood Senior compete for the title.
This event is a true display of LBPSB’s commitment to literacy. It also shows the board’s commitment to making sure that every child can shine. Not every child is an athlete, musician, artist, mathematician, or robotics gear head. The Battle of the Books gives our children, the voracious readers and logophiles, a sense of belonging to a team and the pride of representing their school in competition.
My son has competed at B.O.B. throughout his time in high school. LCCHS has also been the bridesmaid every year. This, his senior year, was his last shot at winning the trophy. As the only grade 11 student on the team, he felt a lot of pressure to ‘finish the job’. Through it all, Ms. Molly has supported the team unwaveringly. To hear my son say, “Finally after 5 years!” as he hoisted the trophy at evenings end, gave this dad tremendous pride.
Thank you to the LBPSB and LCCHS staff for organizing this top-notch event. Thank you for giving our children the opportunity to shine. This is just one of many events that happen daily at LBPSB that allow our children to get the most out of the education.

PS: The door prizes (trivia for the audience) are a great touch. My younger son was able to win a book as well.
