International Experiences: Student Voices
by Marilyn Santucci
German student Carolin shares her story as an international student studying at John Rennie High School.
Did you know that the Lester B. Pearson School Board welcomes students from around the world to study at one of their schools?
Last year, Carolin Dziallas hopped on a plane and traveled from Hamburg, Germany, to Montreal to study at John Rennie High School. She is 17 years old and is currently in grade 11. Carolin is also part of the cooking club at JRHS and speaks four languages.
We sat down with Carolin earlier this year to chat about her experience studying abroad. She shared the highs and lows of leaving home at a young age, how the program has helped her grow, and why she thinks others should consider international experiences.
Lester B. Peason School Board International Program
Welcoming international students every year, the Lester B. Peason School Board international program has established recruitment partnerships with over thirty (30) countries around the world. Such partnerships allow for an incredibly diverse student culture not only within our programs, but in the Montreal community. Students like Carolin are offered a rich experience that extends beyond the classroom. Throughout the year, the program brings together all international students for days filled with Canadian fun. This past winter, students were invited to snowshoe around Mont Royal, and feast on traditional Quebecois cuisine at a sugar shack.
