John Rennie Prepares to Celebrate 70ᵗʰ Anniversary

While another exciting school year begins, a special celebration is being organized for an LBPSB high school as JRHS prepares to celebrate its 70ᵗʰ anniversary celebrations.
From the school’s humble beginnings as a high school in the West Island on a dead end street, to the heart of its community today, JRHS has seen many changes over the years and its 70th anniversary is the perfect opportunity to share those moments with the community.
To commemorate this anniversary, a special JRHS timeline called Happy Birthday JRHS was created. It includes several milestones and a trip down memory lane.
The 70th anniversary celebrations will take place on Saturday, September 19th, 2026 and includes guided school tours, a bbq garden lunch with students and alumni, a sporting event in the gym, and evening of fun and dancing at Le Manoir.

“For 70 years, John Rennie has been a place of excellence, built on long-standing traditions while continually embracing new ideas, innovative projects, and opportunities for our students.
I was fortunate enough to experience John Rennie first as a student in the 1990s, and I have had the privilege of calling it home as a teacher for the past 25 years. My belief in this school runs so deep that I chose to send both of my own children here—just as many of our staff members have done with their families.
We are proud to celebrate a school that offers students not only outstanding academic opportunities, but also a wide variety of specialty programs, activities, and experiences that allow every student to discover their interests, talents, and passions. After 70 years, John Rennie continues to grow, evolve, and inspire, while remaining true to the traditions that have made it such a special place.
As our school slogan says, there’s something here for everyone,” says JRHS alumnus and teacher Raquel Lobaton.
The rough outline for September 19th is:
- Guided Tours (10am – 12pm)
- Lunch (BBQ 12pm – 1pm)
- Sporting Events (1pm – 3:30pm)
- Dinner at Manoir (at your expense 4:30pm – 6:30pm)
- Social / Dance (ADULTS ONLY – Cash Bar) – (7pm – 10pm)
