by Marilyn Santucci
As you step through the library doors at Lakeside Academy, you are welcomed by an abundance of books, colourful walls filled with art, and a friendly face.
Jennifer Wooley has the been the librarian at Lakeside for 35 years. Here, students and faculty alike can immerse themselves in enchanting realms nestled within the pages of books or relax with a game of chess. The library is home to over 5,000 books, offered in English, French and Spanish, which were curated by Jennifer throughout the years.
A space for everyone
Jennifer knew she wanted the library to feel like a safe and welcoming place for everyone. She brought in a selection of cozy furniture, decked the walls with vibrant posters and artwork, and assembled a mix of board games, puzzles, and arts and crafts supplies. Additionally, she established various clubs, such as a Harry Potter club, inviting students to engage in shared interests. Taking it a step further, Jennifer introduced the Library Monitor Program, providing students with opportunities to develop practical skills while contributing to the library’s upkeep. Tasks ranged from organizing books to assisting Jennifer in sourcing new additions through off-campus shopping adventures.

I was a library monitor in the early 90s, and I can safely say that Jennifer Wooley changed my life. She always had a way of making every student feel special, and like our contributions were valuable. The library was my home at LHS. I later worked as a student assistant at my college library, and I am now a librarian myself. It was wonderful to see the inside of that library again after all these years. Thank you!
So VERY well done Jennifer. I’m BLESSED and THANKFUL that you’re my sister. I love you. Always.
