Congratulations to the LaSalle Elementary Girls Basketball Team for winning GOLD at the 2024 Jeux de Montréal!
The LaSalle Elementary Girls Basketball Team captured the gold medal in Under 12 Mini Girls Basketball at the 2024 Jeux de Montréal. The Jeux de Montréal is an annual sporting event that occurs over five days in Montréal at numerous locations. This year is recognized as the 47th edition of Jeux de Montréal. The basketball games took place on Sunday, April 7th at Lauren Hill Academy Junior in Saint-Laurent. The LaSalle Elementary Girls Basketball team represented the region of the LaSalle won both their games against Outremont and Montreal-Est.
The team was comprised of twelve students and was captained by Grade 5 student Viviana Anderson Romero. Viviana demonstrated her leadership, communication, and organizational skills throughout the tournament and will continue to mentor the 80+ female students that comprise the Girls Basketball Program at LaSalle Elementary Senior!

Grade 4 Basketball Captain Isabella Dunn was the only cycle two student on the gold medal roster. Isabella is a leader in the gymnasium and in the classroom and will lead the team when basketball returns as a sport in Jeux de Montréal at the 49th edition of the Jeux de Montréal in 2026.
“This experience was one for the books and I cannot wait to experience it again with my girls,” said Ms. Dunn. “We couldn’t have done it without all the hard work, dedication and support of Coach!”
The gold medal team was coached by Physical Education teacher Mr. Michael Putré and Integration Aide Tyson Leclair. In addition, Destyny (2019 Female Athlete of the Year) assisted with coaching duties.
“We were able to create multiple turnovers with our defensive intensity which led to more offensive opportunities,” said Mr. Leclair when asked about their success, “this ultimately led us to victory in both of our games. We as a coaching staff are very proud, and the sky is the limit for these young ladies.”
The season was not yet complete for the LaSalle Elementary Girls Basketball Team as they competed in numerous exhibition games including an all-girls basketball jamboree which occurred recently at John Rennie High School. Furthermore, all Grade 4 Basketball Girls will participate in the first ever Glow in the Dark Basketball Game occurring in June 2024 under black lights with a glowing basketball. They will also participate at the WILBA 3v3 tournament later this year before the season culminates with the 2024 All Star Game featuring current and alumni female basketball players!
Good luck to the LaSalle Elementary Girls Basketball team in all their upcoming games.
