The Jeux de Montréal is the largest youth sports competition in the city, bringing together over 5,000 participants. The event takes place across 14 venues, including the Centre Sportif Claude-Robillard, which hosted this year’s basketball tournament. Featuring 26 sports disciplines, including two adapted sports, the Games aim to promote participation, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles.
This year marked the 49th edition of the Jeux de Montréal. The opening ceremony was held on Wednesday, April 8 at the Centre Sportif Claude-Robillard. LaSalle Elementary Senior students Erika Gamra Ramirez and team captain Isabella Dunn were selected as the official flag bearers for the LaSalle delegation. The ceremony featured an Olympic-style parade, speeches from city representatives, and a high-energy dance performance alongside mascots representing all 28 delegations.
The basketball tournament took place on Saturday, April 11 at the Centre Sportif Claude-Robillard. The team was made up of ten students, including captain Isabella Dunn, who was competing in her third Jeux de Montréal. Isabella previously earned gold in basketball in 2024 and bronze in handball in 2025. She is set to return next year for a record fourth appearance, this time competing in volleyball.
Former team captain and current Grade 7 student at LCCHS, Viviana Anderson Romero, returned this year as a coach. Her leadership and mentorship were evident throughout the tournament, as she demonstrated outstanding communication and motivational skills. Reflecting on her experience, Viviana stated, “From teammates to mentor, sharing a game with girls I once played with is rewarding by stepping off the court as a player but coming back as a coach”.
Although the Jeux de Montréal have concluded, the LaSalle Elementary Senior Girls Basketball team will continue their season by participating in additional tournaments and events, including the third annual all-girls basketball jamboree at John Rennie High School in May 2026. The season will culminate with the third annual Girls Glow in the Dark Basketball Game in June.
