Le Corrid’Art
submitted by Michael White, Principal of St. John Fisher Sr.
You may have heard of St. John Fisher in the last few years, as they have won the CBC music contest, were mentioned in the house of commons and were fortunate to have their Rock Band play for the council of commissioners last May.
Mme Éthier has been at the heart of St John Fisher Art Club for the last few years. It is no wonder that her classroom projects are equally dynamic and relevant to her students. This year, she has spearheaded the Bug Art Unit in gr. 4 and 5 with the help of her colleagues.
The newly christened “Corrid’Art” hallway has been home to the Bug Art exhibit. A combination of works inspired by Belgian street artist Pol Comso Students created various pieces of art with a bug theme.
It was a thrill for the students to have Mr. Cosmo graciously comment on their Facebook page:
“I don’t think the 30-year-old me who (re-)started drawing could ever imagine there would some day be a ‘Pol Cosmo corridor exhibition’ in a school in Canada. Just look at this… I’m speechless.
I regularly receive messages from teachers in the education/art academies who use my work in their class for inspiration. It moves me every time. There is no greater compliment than hearing that my drawings can inspire others.
Rachel Éthier, thank you so much.”
Art is truly a language that touches us all, regardless of culture or distance.
Thank you Pol Cosmo and Mme. Éthier!
