Lester B. Pearson School Board Adopts
Balanced 2025-2026 Budget
by Darren Becker
The Lester B. Pearson School Board (LBPSB) is pleased to announce the adoption of a balanced budget for the 2025-2026 academic year. The announcement was made last night at the LBPSB’s regular Council of Commissioners’ meeting. The 2025-2026 operating, investment and debt service balanced budget has anticipated revenues and expenses of $427,294,908. The budget will be sent to Quebec’s Ministry of Education for approval.
This achievement comes after a challenging period marked by consecutive government announcements regarding cuts to budget rules and their potential impacts on students and staff. Despite these obstacles, the Board has successfully met its financial obligations while maintaining its commitment to quality education and student success.
“This year, in particular, accomplishing the challenging task of adopting a balanced budget while being mindful of the impacts of unexpected cuts and being confronted with repeated, sometimes conflicting directives from the Ministry, was indeed very difficult,” said Judy Kelley, Chairperson of the Lester B. Pearson School Board’s Council of Commissioners.
“The school board’s focus on fiscal responsibility and transparency has allowed us to navigate a complex financial landscape while staying focused on our core mission of providing an inclusive, student-centered learning environment that promotes excellence and well-being,” said Cindy Finn, Director General of the LBPSB.
The Lester B. Pearson School Board would like to thank its staff for their ongoing dedication and collaboration throughout this process.
