JRHS Life Skills Program Tries Robotics

For the first time, the John Rennie High School Life Skills Program got a chance to try out robotics with Mr. Cadot’s grade 9 robotics class. These students got to try building and coding Sumo Bots made from Lego EV3’s and got to design and print on the 3D printer with the help of some students.
This all started when the robotics teacher, Mr. Cadot and the Life Skills teacher wanted to let the Life Skills Program experience creating, coding and fighting. Some students from his robotics class volunteered to help the students and spent all of their class time trying to help the resource students understand what they needed and help them do whatever they wanted.
Every robotics class, the Life Skills students went to the robotics class and kept building their robot until the day came where the students were finally able to fight with their robot. Since they weren’t able to finish on time, some students from the robotics class let them fight with their robot.
After the Sumo battles the next thing planned was 3D printing where the Life Skills Program students decided to stay and were able to design whatever they wanted using Tinkercad. With the help of some students, the Life Skills Program learned how to make whatever they wanted. The school year was coming to an end so the students printed their creations and brought them home. Their imaginations went wild as they built things such as a crocodile with a crown to a penguin from a video game.
After the resource students experienced robotics for three months, the school year came to an end but all Life Skills Program students who wanted to, got to try out and enjoy robotics thanks to the teachers who organized it and the students who helped make this possible.
