PCHS Student Is a Rising Star in the F4 U.S. Motorsports Championship and Driving Towards a Bright Future in F1

Luca Day is gearing up to be a major star in the world of North American motorsport. At the age of 15 Luca has already made his mark in the Canadian karting circuit and is now aiming to progress through the ranks eventually competing at international levels such as the Formula 4 and Formula 3 championships. His goal is to reach the pinnacle of racing—Formula 1—where he hopes to represent Quebec and Canada on the global stage.
Luca’s journey into the fast-paced realm of motorsport began at an early age.
“I have been a fan of motorsports since I was around 2 years old when my dad and I would watch F1 races together. I just love the speed of it. It’s such an amazing feeling when you’re behind the wheel and travelling over 200 km/h,” said Luca.
He grew up in Quebec, a province with a deep history of motorsport culture thanks in part to the global success of race car driver father son duo Jacques and Gilles Villeneuve who both won Formula 1 world championships.
He started competing at the age of 8 with an interest in high-speed Go-karting where cars can go up to 110 km/h. In his quest to feed his need to speed he went on to test open wheel race cars at age 13 and now, at 15, he is competing in Formula 4 races where drivers speed around the track at up to 250 km/h.
And unlike many young racers who focus mainly on their athletic pursuits, Luca’s commitment to education sets him apart. He dedicates hours each day to rigorous training sessions, both on and off the track, while maintaining a strong academic performance. He is currently enrolled in Grade 10 studies at Pierrefonds Community High School where Luca’s father Nick said staff have been extremely supportive of Luca’s drive to pursue his motorsport dreams of becoming an F1 champion.
“His teachers and staff at PCHS are so proud of Luca and have been so supportive of him which is amazing as his training schedule can be extremely demanding, His teachers at PCHS recognize his unique challenges and have provided support to help him juggle the demands of schoolwork and racing. This support system has been vital in helping Luca maintain a balanced lifestyle,” said Nick Day, Luca’s father.
For example, Luca trains more than 4 hours a day using state-of-the-art simulators where he can learn how to master different tracks before driving them in real life. His daily regimen also includes physical conditioning, mental preparation, and countless hours behind the wheel.
Despite the pressures of competing at such a high level, Luca remains grounded thanks to the support of his family and school community.
“At times it can be stressful, especially around exam time, but everyone at PCHS has been so amazing and my friends think my involvement in this sport is cool so that’s inspiring as well,” said Luca.
His journey highlights the importance of a strong support network and the ability to manage time effectively, skills that will serve him well both on and off the track.
