Math Olympics 2025 Brings Together Young Mathletes Across the LBPSB
by Marilyn Santucci
Grade 5 and 6 students from schools across the Lester B. Pearson School Board showcased their problem-solving skills at the 2025 Math Olympics. The event took place at Pierrefonds Community High School on December 2 and Lakeside Academy on December 4.
This annual competition challenges students with a series of math problems that they must solve both individually and as part of a team. It’s a unique opportunity for young learners to have fun, be creative, and apply their mathematical knowledge in a fast-paced competition environment. Parents cheered from the stands, while teachers and principals stood by their students’ sides, offering encouragement every step of the way.
“Math is one of my better subjects and I find it so fun. Its challenging and I love problem solving. It’s my last year in elementary and I really wanted to participate in this event and make the most out of it!” said Maya, a grade 6 student from Westpark Elementary.

“Students buzzed with energy as they moved through each event during this year’s Math Olympics—working hard, brainstorming, and sharing ideas. Laughter and lively discussion filled the room as teams collaborated, using their rich knowledge of math to celebrate the fun of learning,” said Julie Houle and Rebecca Binet, LBPSB Math Pedagogical Consultants and Math Olympics organizers.
A big thank you to the students and staff of Pierrefonds Community High School and Lakeside Academy who volunteered their time to support the event. From setting up stations to grading student work, your dedication and teamwork ensured the Math Olympics ran smoothly.
Congratulations to everyone!
One Response
This was so fun I loved participating! If this event was offered in seventh grade I would definitely do it again. I loved how after every problem we would go back to our tables and talk about all our different answers.
