The idea for the murals emerged after discussions about adding artwork to the newly renovated walls. “We’ve been seeing murals going up in many of our schools, and I thought it would be a great addition here,” says Caracciolo. “Initially, we couldn’t hang traditional artwork due to fire code regulations, but murals offered a perfect solution. Since I’ve worked with Beverly in schools before, I suggested we collaborate on this project.”
For Landry, the project was a unique opportunity. “It was Frank’s concept and he knew what was required. I am usually at elementary schools, so his guidance was really needed for this project,” she says. “I yearn for the geometric shapes. It’s different from what I’m doing at the elementary schools. It’s a different form and I really enjoy it.”
The murals aim to create a visually pleasant environment that greets employees as they enter the building. “We wanted to design something simple, inviting, and subtle—art that complements the work environment,” Caracciolo explains. “Using the board’s logo colors as a guide, Beverly and I experimented with forms and colors to ensure the work felt cohesive and welcoming.”
Landry adds that collaboration was key. “Working with Frank is a delight. It’s always about the project and not about ego. There is always collaboration and we work so well together.”
The project reflects the board’s commitment to community and innovation. Caracciolo notes, “The fact that the board supported the idea speaks volumes about their values. Everyone was on board. The walls were a bit dreary, and people were ready to try something new. Allowing the artwork to evolve in the space shows the community’s openness and creativity.”
Creating the murals was a hands-on process. Unlike some large-scale projects that rely on projections, most of the work was hand-drawn, with careful planning, taping, and brushwork. The first mural took a week to complete, while the second and third took two days each, factoring in drying time and preparation. “The most challenging part wasn’t the painting itself—it was waiting for layers to dry,” Caracciolo laughs. “Working with Beverly made the process seamless, and as one piece dried, we’d already be planning the next.”
The response from employees has been overwhelmingly positive. “The most rewarding moments were seeing staff walk by, comment, and express genuine appreciation. Those little interactions really made the project feel worthwhile,” Caracciolo shares.
Landry hopes the murals brighten everyone’s day. “I hope it infuses life into the building. The building is very industrial, and the murals bring light to the hallways. The goodwill of the people at the board was so positive. I was offered coffee and treats, and the environment was wonderful to work in.”
Ultimately, the goal of the murals is to enhance the everyday experience of those who work in or visit the building. From the entrance piece featuring the board logo to the bright, cheerful mural that greets staff daily, Landry and Caracciolo hope their work fosters a sense of ownership and pride. “We wanted people to feel welcomed and enjoy the subtle beauty of hand-painted murals,” Caracciolo says. “It’s about creating spaces that brighten your day.”
