NFL Player Damien Alford Visits LaSalle Sr.

submitted by Stef Gervasi, CAPDA
Being a CAPDA helps create meaningful connections—connections that will be remembered by the LaSalle community and the Grade 6 students at LaSalle Senior Elementary. Recently, the Grade 6 classes gathered in the library to meet someone who explained that discipline and hard work can turn dreams into reality.

Fellow Montrealer Damien Alford kindly took the time to speak with the students. Standing at 6’6” with a strong sense of style and a warm personality, he quickly captured their attention as they listened closely to his advice and experiences.

Alford, who was selected first overall pick from the CFL to earn an opportunity in the NFL, recently signed a contract and will begin training with the New Orleans Saints in April.

Students came prepared with questions, and Alford emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong work ethic—not only in sports but also in school. He shared that academic discipline played a key role in allowing him to pursue his athletic goals.

One message that resonated deeply with students was how humble he was: “I don’t want to be treated differently now that I am in the NFL, nor should anyone think they are better than anyone else.”

Family, he explained, has always been his reason for motivation. He encouraged students to listen to and respect their elders, whose wisdom and guidance can help shape their future.

Alford also spoke about his journey through U.S. college, where scholarship opportunities helped him earn a degree and continue his athletic career, eventually leading him to play for the Calgary Stampeders.

After his talk, Alford stayed to sign autographs and take photos. His visit left the LaSalle community with a strong sense of pride. To show their appreciation, students gifted Alford a T-shirt that read, “Your biggest fans are from LaSalle Senior,” sending him off with encouragement.

The school will also proudly display a signed T-shirt from Alford—a symbol of a role model that students can look up to for years to come.
