Parenting Perspectives Webinar Series

As a non-profit educational organization LEARN has developed parenting webinars with the intention of helping parents find ways to support student success.
When we launched the Parenting in the Pandemic series parents flocked to these sessions as they addressed shared concerns about their children. The most popular sessions, at the time, were led by the Centre of Excellence for Mental Health (CEMH) and Family and School Support and Treatment Team (FSSTT) covering topics from regulating emotions, fostering resilience, coping with stress.
Eventually the series evolved into our current series Perspectives in Parenting. This included a continued partnership with CEMH who recently hosted another very popular three-part series on How can Parents Support Anxious Kids & Help Them Thrive?
The next session is on February 4th, 2025, from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm with Helene Packman from the Centre of Excellence for Autism Spectrum Disorder speaking on the topic of Using Declarative Language to Support a Child’s Growth.
Helene Packman is a school-based Speech and Language Pathologist, and an award-winning educator, with over 20 years of experience at the Lester B. Pearson School Board, where she helps students build essential communication skills.
This session will introduce parents to simple ways to replace commands with statements that allow your child to process information at their own speed. This approach supports social growth and flexible thinking, making it a helpful tool for building positive, respectful communication with all children, including neurodiverse.
