PEF Update Fall 2024

Fall Update: the Pearson Educational Foundation

by Simone Viger

Following the Annual General Meeting, Pearson Educational Foundation is recruiting new board members!

Pearson Education Foundation (PEF) recently held their annual general assembly. This assembly marks the departure of Directors Lorne Brotman and David Fuzes, who have provided expertise in finance, development, strategy, PR and communications. Each year, a few members of the Director team may change, but their commitment to the vision and mission of PEF remains unwavering.

PEF is currently recruiting three volunteer positions for their Board of Directors to work alongside the six returning Directors.

Kyle Verboomen (President)
Jesse Rémillard-Stenier
(Vice-President)
Kenny Mandel (Treasurer)
Richard Meloche (Secretary)
Michel Belleville (Director)
Rafat Noor Khan (Director)

PEF board members share the desire to support public education to meet the needs of today’s learners in the communities served by the LBPSB. PEF’s board includes a diverse array of professionals from different backgrounds. They are an ambitious team with clear strategic objectives.

If you are interested in joining the PEF Board of Directors, please share your CV and a brief letter of motivation (1/2 page) to pef@lbpsb.qc.ca. Please call 514-422-3000 x37000 or write for more information. This is your chance to get involved and help make a difference at the LBPSB!

PEF serves as a trust to the LBPSB’s many scholarships, funds and bursaries, and raises money to financially support schools and programs at the elementary, secondary and adult education levels.

One of PEF’s most important and longest-running programs is the Rona Cupak Snowsuit and Boots Fund – which ensures that cold weather gear is sent to the schools so that students arrive at school warm and dry. For more about this fund, you can check out this past Pearson News article. According to the PEF Annual Report presented at the AGM, “Increased awareness by the staff, as well as, sadly, increasing financial difficulties for many families, results in the requests for snowsuits, boots, hats and mitts growing year over year throughout the board’s territory.” As a result, PEF is in need of establishing new partnerships offering more affordable options as well as more funds to secure more snowsuits for LBPSB children.

If you, or someone you know, would also like to provide financial support to this program, you can donate online through this link: Pearson Educational Foundation Online Donations. A Donor and Tax Receipt will be issued for donations.

“PEF is an important piece of our community’s mosaic of impactful entities, but even the most powerful rocket ship needs a community to launch it. PEF continues to have immense potential, and we are looking to the members of our community to help launch this next year. To infinity and beyond… for our students!”
