by Marilyn Santucci

The Post-Secondary Education and Training Fair at John Rennie High School on November 15 was a vibrant and dynamic event, offering students a wealth of opportunities to explore and plan their futures. With representatives from a variety of institutions and organizations, the event catered to a diverse range of interests, ensuring every student could find information tailored to their goals.

1. Post-Secondary Education: Students looking toward higher education engaged with representatives from prestigious universities such as Concordia, Bishop’s, the University of Ottawa, and McGill’s Macdonald Campus. These conversations offered insights into programs, admissions processes, and campus life, helping students envision their academic journey.

2. CEGEP Options: For those interested in CEGEP, booths from Dawson, Vanier, and John Abbott College provided details on their programs. John Abbott stood out with dedicated booths for specific fields like dentistry, nursing, and criminology, allowing students to dive deeper into their areas of interest.

3. Trades and Vocational Training: Students curious about pursuing a trade or practical skills had access to representatives from Vocational Training Centres, Adult Education Programs, and Academic & Career Development Services. This showcased paths that combine learning with hands-on experience, emphasizing the value of skilled trades in today’s workforce.

4. Public Service Careers: The fair also highlighted rewarding careers in public service, with opportunities to explore firefighting, policing, and roles within the Armed Forces and RCMP. These booths offered a glimpse into careers that combine personal fulfillment with community impact.

5. Interactive Experience: Beyond just gathering information, students actively engaged in discussions, asked questions, and sought guidance tailored to their unique aspirations. The diverse set of booths and enthusiastic representatives created an encouraging environment for students to make informed decisions about their futures.

6. Networking and Exploration: Whether students were looking for academic programs, hands-on training, or public service opportunities, the event provided a chance to connect with experts and peers. The variety of options on display reflected the endless possibilities available after high school.

The vibrant atmosphere and wealth of information provided students with valuable resources to plan their next steps, whether in academics, trades, or public service. Such events are instrumental in guiding students toward their ambitions and futures.
