Ready, Set, Go! LBPSB Elementary Students Hit the Trails

Under bright, sunny skies, elementary students from across the Lester B. Pearson School Board (LBPSB) laced up their running shoes for the annual LBPSB Cross-Country Run, held October 20 and 21 at the Morgan Arboretum in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue.
Bringing together students from all LBPSB elementary schools, the two-day event celebrated physical activity, perseverance and school spirit in a beautiful outdoor setting. The arboretum’s trails provided the backdrop for a memorable experience that encouraged students to challenge themselves, enjoy the outdoors and cheer on their classmates.
As students took to the trails, they had the opportunity to set personal goals, push their limits and celebrate their accomplishments. Whether racing toward the finish line or encouraging a fellow runner, students demonstrated the determination and sportsmanship that make this event so special. The run also offered a chance for students to connect with peers from other schools while representing their own school communities.
The tradition dates back decades. While the LBPSB Cross-Country Run has been held for 28 years, its roots stretch back even further to the former Lakeshore School Board. Scott Taylor, LBPSB Education Consultant for Physical Education and Health, recalls participating in the event himself 50 years ago.
Taylor spearheaded the organization of this year’s run with the support of many dedicated volunteers. He also highlighted the importance of teacher involvement in making the event a success. Like other LBPSB elementary tournaments, the cross-country run is teacher-organized, encouraging strong participation and support from schools.
For Taylor, one of the most rewarding parts of the event is seeing the excitement unfold as students arrive at the arboretum.
“The best part of the run is seeing 1,300 kids a day get off the buses and fill the fields at the Morgan Arboretum for four hours of running, playing and cheering on their school friends,” said Taylor.
While the lively atmosphere may temporarily replace the arboretum’s usual quiet, it reflects the enthusiasm and energy students bring to the day. Once the buses depart, the trails grow quiet again, but the memories of the experience remain.
Beyond the finish line, the LBPSB Cross-Country Run is a celebration of student achievement, school spirit and community. It provides an opportunity for students to stay active, build confidence and create lasting memories while sharing in an experience that has connected generations of students.
