JRHS Student Wins Guinness World Record
by Pearson News Staff
Grade 7 John Rennie High School student Sophia Pawlusiak, formerly of St. John Fisher, has won a Guinness World Record!
Sophia discovered her natural talent for hula hooping as a young child and eventually set her sights on a Guinness World Record for the most hula hoop rotations while hanging upside down.
After the long approval process, and overcoming delays from weather and health challenges, she successfully set the record at age 11 in June 2025 with 142 rotations.
Although the record was later surpassed by someone in India with slightly more rotations, Sophia remains determined rather than discouraged. Now 12, she continues to train with the goal of reclaiming her title, supported by her proud mother Jessica Pereira.
