St. Patrick’s Day Parade: A Combined Effort

by Joanne Malowany

We were so thrilled to hear that the Lester B. Pearson School Board would be participating in the 199th St. Patrick’s Day parade in Montreal. The weeks leading up to the parade were filled with hustle and hard work to prepare for this wonderful event.

Recently, the Lester B. Pearson School Board received notification that the float had won in one of the eleven categories, best Amateur Float, for the second year in a row! Congratulations to all who contributed.

As the St. Patrick’s Day parade approached, two key elements came together: the creative craftsmanship of the Equipment Services Department and the musical prowess of the Terry Fox elementary school band.

Behind the scenes, in the week leading up to the event, the Equipment Services Department poured their creativity into transforming the parade float into a dazzling spectacle, while the Terry Fox band comprised of 32 grade 5 and 6 students, under the guidance of their passionate music teacher, Mr. C., diligently honed their skills to be ready to deliver a stellar performance.

On the morning of March 17th, the culmination of their efforts came to fruition as the band, accompanied by the school principal, Mr. Stewart on the keyboard, and led by Mr. C., jammed together and brought musical magic to the streets, drawing cheers and applause from spectators. The float was followed by enthusiastic parents and siblings cheering and waving to the crowd that lined de Maisonneuve Street. Together, all these dedicated individuals infused the parade with an infectious energy, fostering a sense of togetherness and celebration within the community.

As the parade came to an end and everyone piled off the float, all participants were beaming with pride, but no one was more proud than the band’s biggest fans: Mr. C. and Mr. Stewart.

What a special memory for everyone to share together.

Thank you to the spectacular students, Mr. C., Mr. Stewart, all the parent/sibling volunteers and our Equipment Services department for coming together and creating magic.
