The Lester B. Pearson School Board is extremely proud to announce that Westwood Junior and Westwood Senior High School music teacher Steve Dubinsky is receiving a Regional Certificate of Achievement for the 2024 Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence.
“Steve’s love for teaching is truly inspirational. Over the years he has fostered a love of music in his students and has earned the respect of his colleagues. His commitment to excellence in music education makes him truly deserving of this prestigious award,” said Cindy Finn, Director General of the LBPSB.
Since 1993, the Prime Minister’s Awards for Teaching Excellence have honoured exceptional educators in Canadian elementary and secondary schools.
Over the years, many of Steve’s music students playing in Westwood’s bands have won numerous awards at the provincial level (MusicFest Quebec, Capital Region Music Festival) and national levels.(MusicFest Canada). Steve‘s passion for music education has also been recognized on numerous occasions, including the Gordon Paterson Award from the Home and School Associations of Quebec, the Quebec Music Educators Association Teacher Of The Year Award, the Quebec Band Association Distinguished Educator Award, and the I. Keith Mann/NAC Orchestra Outstanding Band Director Award from MusicFest Canada.
“I am very touched and humbled for winning the Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence. I love being a teacher and it truly is my dream job. To me, teaching is about showing kids that they can do things that are extraordinary. The wonderful part about working with kids is that they don’t know that they can’t, so they do,” said Steve.
