Led by Field Hockey Canada, the initiative supports the growth and development of field hockey across the country. With approximately 18,000 participants involved in the sport nationwide, Field Hockey Canada is working to create pathways for players of all ages and skill levels, from introductory community programs to high-performance competition.
Through this funding, all students at LaSalle Elementary Senior will participate annually in a four-week field hockey unit as part of the Physical Education curriculum. Throughout the unit, students will learn fundamental skills of the game, develop confidence through physical activity and build important values such as teamwork, respect, perseverance, and sportsmanship.
A highlight of the program was a special trip to Sportira Cage, where 30 students had the opportunity to develop their field hockey skills in a dynamic indoor sports environment. During the visit, students took part in a variety of engaging games and activities. The visit helped build confidence, foster a positive attitude toward physical activity and gave students a memorable introduction to the sport of field hockey.
The trip was made even more special with the support of Destyny Quiblat, a 2019 graduate of LaSalle Elementary Senior. Destyny accompanied the students throughout the day, sharing her passion for sports and serving as a positive role model. Her enthusiasm and encouragement helped create a welcoming environment and inspired students to embrace new challenges and experiences through sport.
This exciting partnership ensures that every student has the opportunity to experience a new sport, stay active and discover the enjoyment of lifelong participation in physical activity. We are grateful to Field Hockey Canada and the Community Sport for All Initiative for helping bring this opportunity to our school community!
