Running for Terry: Students and Staff From the Lester B. Pearson School Board Participated in their Annual Terry Fox Runs

Participants took to the streets to raise money and awareness for the Terry Fox Foundation.
Schools across the Lester B. Pearson School Board participated in their annual Terry Fox Run, held on various dates throughout September and October. Students and staff came together to raise awareness and funds for the Terry Fox Foundation. The streets were filled with our community, united in running to honor Terry and others affected by cancer. Here are some highlights:
Terry Fox Elementary
At Terry Fox Elementary, students and staff ran in honour of two individuals: Terry Fox and Eddy Nolan. Nolan was a local hero and inspiration to many members of the Lester B. Pearson School Board community. For many years, he was a familiar presence at various Terry Fox Runs. His personal experience with the disease, coupled with the struggles faced by family members and the inspiring legacy of Terry Fox, motivated Eddy to dedicate a significant portion of his life to championing fundraising efforts aimed at finding a cure for cancer. Eddy passed away this April but is far from forgotten. Students and staff dedicated this year’s Terry Fox Run to him, and will continue to honour him and Terry Fox, his hero, for years to come.
Beacon Hill Elementary
Beacon Hill Elementary had some fun with their fundraising campaign. If they hit their goal of $7K, Mr. Lag, Mrs. Maurice, and Mr. Dixon, teachers at the school, would receive a pie to the face! Good news: they reached their goal and pies were thrown!
St Edmunds Elementary
Just like Beacon Hill, St. Edmunds Elementary School recently organized a fun and exciting “pie in the face” contest as part of their efforts to boost fundraising. This lighthearted event brought the students, teachers, and community together, all working towards a common goal. Through their combined enthusiasm and support, they managed to raise an impressive total of $18,357 for the Terry Fox Foundation.
Beaconsfield High School
Beaconsfield High School had music pumping right outside their front doors! Students gathered in groups and waited for their teachers to give them the green light. Once they did, they were off, running and walking through the streets of Beaconsfield all in support of Terry and others affected by cancer.
John Rennie High School
As with many other schools, students at John Rennie chose to run in honour of people close to them who had suffered from cancer. Grade 9 student Lisa V., for example, explained that she was running for her great-grandmother who had died of the disease.
Coming together for a great cause
