Westwood Wildcats Hockey Team is Tops in Quebec

submitted by Patrick Mischook, teacher
The Westwood Wildcats M18 D3 scolaire hockey team has etched its name at the top of Quebec high school hockey, capturing its first-ever provincial championship in a season defined by resilience, growth, and unwavering determination.

After finishing first in the Montreal conference during the regular season, the Wildcats appeared poised for gold. However, a heartbreaking loss in the finals left them with silver medals. A setback that could have derailed many teams. Instead, it became fuel.

Entering the RSEQ Provincials in Quebec City with focus, and heart, the Wildcats proved they were, indeed, a force to be reckoned with. The team delivered an incredible performance, going undefeated across four games and tallying an impressive 18 goals. Their dominant run secured the team the championship & capping off a remarkable journey.

Their success is a reflection not only of talent, but of the countless hours of preparation, sacrifice, and belief shared among players, coaches, and staff. It also represents a milestone for the Westwood High School hockey program itself, a program still in its infancy, yet already achieving elite success.

The foundation of this championship team dates back to a core group of players who began together in Grade 7 competing in the GMAA D4 league. Just two years later, the Westwood hockey program was formally established by Westwood Junior Physical Education teacher Jennifer Lussier-Price.

Her vision was ambitious: to build a sports concentration model that would develop well-rounded student-athletes. The program integrates on-ice training, physical conditioning, and academic focus into the school day, allowing students to balance athletics, education, and family life more effectively. That vision has quickly become reality.

The Wildcats’ success is supported by a dedicated network of coaches, trainers, and staff who have helped shape both the team’s culture and its competitive edge. Jeremy Lauzon, Taylor Ford, Jacob Anderson, Max Sauve and coach K. Also, with Quartiers des Sports Kubota and Play it Again Sports Kirkland.

For Westwood, this championship is more than a trophy — it is proof of concept.
