In early June, just before the FIFA World Cup excitement began, the Wilder Penfield Elementary School community came together for something new: our very first Wilder World Cup!

Students, families, coaches, volunteers and supporters enjoyed a fun-filled day of soccer, community and giving back. Despite a little rain, the fields were full of energy, cheering families, great games and plenty of smiles.

There was lots happening off the field too! Kids enjoyed taking pictures with the World Cup replica trophy, free tattoos and stickers, freezies, popcorn and lemonade. We were also thrilled to welcome players from FC Supra du Québec, who spent time chatting with students, signing autographs and handing out free swag. It was a special highlight for many of our young soccer fans!

The event was made possible by the many parents, family members, students, alumni, coaches and referees who generously volunteered their time. A huge thank you also goes to our Wilder World Cup Organizing Committee for the creativity, planning and enthusiasm that brought this event to life.

Giving Back to Our Community

The Wilder World Cup was about more than soccer. Thanks to everyone who participated, $500 was raised and donated to Action Jeunesse de l’Ouest-de-l’Île (AJOI)’s Sports Program.

A member of our Home & School Committee was invited to AJOI’s Annual General Meeting, where they learned more about the organization and the different programs they offer to young people in the West Island.

AJOI offers a variety of sports and recreational activities that give young people opportunities to participate, stay active and connect with their community.

Knowing that our first Wilder World Cup could help give other children and youth the opportunity to participate in sports made the event even more meaningful.

We are so proud of how our community came together for this event and look forward to making the Wilder World Cup a yearly tradition!
