Words Matter: LBPSB Launches Campaign Promoting Respect and Civility in Schools and Centres

by Pearson News Staff

The Lester B. Pearson School Board recently launched a public awareness campaign designed to help continue fostering a culture of civility, respect and professionalism in all its schools and centres.

The school board already has in place codes of conduct in its different schools and centres designed to provide staff and students with clear outlines of expected behaviour, and instructions on what is and isn’t considered good practices. As well, the board has a Safe and Caring Schools policy, which applies across the school board.

Still, the LBPSB felt it was important to issue a friendly reminder to everyone about the importance of always respecting all members of its community, including, staff, students and parents. This includes communications that take place in person, over the phone and via e-mail.

As part of this objective, the LBPSB launched the public awareness campaign, which reiterates its ongoing commitment to foster an environment where every individual is treated with respect even if they have divergent viewpoints or disagree with the opinions of others. This is vital to ensure all members of the community always feel safe.

The campaign involves the distribution of posters to all LBPSB schools and centres featuring the slogan “Words Matter” The LBPSB will also launch other initiatives throughout the coming months with the goal of highlighting how people’s values can contribute to the success of staff and students in all schools and centres while also generating a sense of pride for the school board.
