World Children’s Day: Let’s Celebrate Early Childhood!

Early Childhood Week (November 18-22) serves as an important platform to raise awareness, foster dialogue, and inspire action on behalf of our society’s youngest members. It’s a valuable opportunity to focus on ensuring that children have the tools and resources they need to become successful, contributing members of society in the future.
November 20th, we celebrate Universal children’s day. On this day in 1959, the general assembly adopted the declaration of the rights of the child. This document outlines the basic rights and protections all children should have. It’s a global list of rules to make sure kids are treated fairly, kindly, and have a good chance at a healthy and happy life. “World Children’s Day offers each of us an inspirational entry-point to advocate, promote and celebrate children’s rights, translating into dialogues and actions that will build a better world for children,” (United Nations, 2024).

On Monday, November 18th, RRM (Réseau Réussite Montréal) officially launched Early Childhood Week in Quebec. This organization is dedicated to promoting school perseverance and success for all young people in Montreal. This year’s theme centers on the rights of children, particularly regarding safety, security, and education. By working together, we can ensure that every child receives the best possible start in life.
Across the province, from East to West, community groups are celebrating this week by hosting special events in honor of children and their families.
In Montérégie, we are reflecting on the areas of child development that need improvement, based on the 2022 results from the Quebec survey of child development in kindergarten. This research helps pinpoint the key areas where children require the most support, and we are collectively exploring effective ways to address these needs and foster their growth.
In the East, the Table de Concertation Famille Verdun will host a special event on November 20th, offering a day of fun and educational activities for children and their families, all aimed at supporting early childhood development.
Across the island of Montreal all early childhood workers were asked to Wear a blankie square pinned over your heart in honor of our youngest members of our community.
